Date: Friday, 25 October 2024, 2:45p.m-4.00 p.m
Venue: Mini Auditorium Kuliyyah of Engineering
Speaker: Dr. Sofiah binti Samsudin
Dr. Sofiah’s talk highlighted the importance of Do’a (prayer) and its profound impact on our spiritual journey. She emphasized that prayer is a powerful way to connect with Allah S.W.T., as it focuses our thoughts and hearts solely on Him, acknowledging His presence and power. This act of worship brings us closer to Allah and reminds us of our dependence on Him for everything. Dr. Sofiah also outlined the benefits of prayer, explaining that it brings rewards in both this world and the hereafter. In this world, prayer leads to better physical and mental health, increased peace of mind, and improved relationships, while in the afterlife, it cultivates essential qualities such as faith, patience, and good deeds.

Furthermore, she discussed the conditions for an accepted Do’a, which include sincerity, confidence, and a pure heart. We must pray with dedication and trust that Allah will grant our requests, even if the answer comes later than expected. Dr. Sofiah also stressed the importance of tawakkal (reliance on Allah), but noted that it should be accompanied by continuous effort, drawing a parallel with Prophet Yunus’s Do’a.
In her talk on how Allah responds to Do’a, Dr. Sofiah explained that Allah may answer prayers immediately, or delay the response for our benefit, ensuring that we are fully prepared to receive it. Additionally, Allah’s protection may manifest in ways we are unaware of, such as avoiding harm or illness. Lastly, Dr. Sofiah mentioned that some prayers might not be answered in this life but could be reserved for the afterlife, where the rewards are far greater than anything experienced in this world. The session concluded with a Q&A, which further deepened the students’ understanding of the significance of prayer in their spiritual journey.
