Mujahadah Al-Quran
This talk was held on 8th May 2024 on a Wednesday night from 8:30-9:30 pm at the Musolla of Kulliyyah of Engineering. The speaker is none other than Dr Nashwan himself, an esteemed assistant professor in the Department of Quran and Sunnah Studies. He is passionate about serving the Holy Quran in every aspect of life, whether it be academic, social, or public needs. Hence, his insights are deeply valuable, personalised, and insightful.
Mujahadah means to train and exercise oneself. It can also mean “to revise”. In this context, we should strive to train and exercise ourselves towards having better iman and akhlak. If we keep quiet and do nothing, we are opposing mujahadah. By constantly trying to improve oneself, we are constantly moving one level up to the next.
Our akhlak or ethics is what differentiates us Muslims from Non-Muslims. For us to have a proper code of conduct, we should abide by and follow the Quran and Sunnah as our guidelines. Dr. Nashwan emphasized the fact that good leaders should be linked with the Quran, as it is a comprehensive way of life.
Dr. Nashwan also explained to us ways how to do Mujahadah Al-Quran. One of the ways is to pray in time and congregation. He stressed for us to put effort into the Al-Quran and make time for it. He used a brilliant analogy of “businesses that never lose is an investment towards Allah s.w.t”, and one of them consists of being closer to the Al-Quran. This can also be found in Surah Fatir, Verse 29 :
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَتْلُونَ كِتَـٰبَ ٱللَّهِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ سِرًّۭا وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ يَرْجُونَ تِجَـٰرَةًۭ لَّن تَبُورَ
Surely those who recite the Book of Allah, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them—secretly and openly—˹can˺ hope for an exchange that will never fail.
Having a close connection with Allah s.w.t, such as performing prayers on time striving for the khusyuk, andgiving sadaqah in terms of wealth and energy, can give us a better mujahadah towards the Al-Quran.
