The Ruhi Program is implemented in collaboration with the Lajnah Ashbal Ulamak and
Lajnah Hifzul Islam to instill spiritual awareness among students of the Huffaz Sejahtera
Leadership Program (HSLP), enabling them to become devout servants of Allah who embody
piety and righteous deeds.
Date: 24 May 2024 (Friday)
Time: 3.00 p.m – 5.00 p.m
Venue: Mini Auditorium, E1, Kulliyyah of Engineering
Speaker: Dr. Sofiah binti Samsudin
Participants: Open to all IIUM students
At the beginning, Dr. Sofiah emphasized that every human being is given choices, but they
must constantly seek Allah’s forgiveness and make the best decisions. Angels will provide shade
to those who seek knowledge and make istighfar for them. She also explained the characteristics
of those who are muttaqin (God-conscious) based on Surah Ali-Imran, verse 134:
- Always giving in charity, in both ease and hardship. (Explanation: The pious do not let scarcity
stop them from giving; they consistently give even when resources are limited). - Controlling anger. (Explanation: The pious can manage their emotions and refrain from reacting
negatively when provoked). - Forgiving others. (Explanation: Forgiveness reflects a clean and humble heart, which is a sign
of true faith).
She further elaborated on the difference between fahsha’ and munkar. Fahsha’ refers to sins related
to desires and lust.
Next, she discussed the importance of prayer. The best deed is to perform prayer at its earliest
time. Each prayer missed by a person constitutes a major sin. There is no concept of qada’ (making
up missed prayers).
She also highlighted that good deeds consist of two key elements: - Sincerity in performing them.
- Adherence to the method taught by the Prophet (peace be upon him).
She reminded that every prayer should be a moment of joy and gratitude. Additionally, faith needs
to be actively maintained at all times, including through practices like qiyamullail (night prayers).
After Dr. Sofiah shared her knowledge and advice with us, the students immediately
engaged in a Q&A session, posing several questions to her.
To conclude, the workshop emphasizes the concept of Ruhi as “Iman in Action”
highlighting the importance of integrating faith into daily life. It encourages students to strengthen
their spiritual foundation, cultivate emotional resilience, and embody their beliefs through
righteous actions and impactful leadership.
